Description
This antique Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) pin would make a great addition to a collection of fraternal memorabilia. Founded at the Virginia Military Institute in 1865, the fraternity was designed to encourage reconciliation between the North and the South after the Civil War. This pin is crafted in 14k yellow gold and dates from circa 1895-1905. The badge is a Maltese cross outlined in seed pearls, with genuine emeralds adorning the corners of the cross's arms. Ports on the underside of the badge allow light to pass through the gems for enhanced radiance. A raised, black-enameled circle in the center of the cross showcases a gold Tau letter, a crescent moon, and two stars. Black-enameled shapes on the arms of the cross display two gold Alphas and two gold Omegas. Smoothly polished on the underside, the badge fastens from the back with a bar and hinged clasp. This antique piece is in wonderful condition and has been professionally tested to verify its 14k gold purity composition.
This badge weighs 4.2 grams. The piece measures 17/32" (13.8mm) square.
We guarantee this piece to be 14k gold as tested. It has not been cleaned in order to maintain its original vintage integrity. Please check out the enlarged pictures.
